4-H Wildlife Management State Contest


Due to lack of interest demonstrated by extremely low participation the state WHEP Contest has been discontinued – until further notice.

Pre-registration is required and due to the State 4-H office by April15. 

Check with your County Extension office for county due date. (probably around April 1-5)

$10 per participant fee (includes noon meal).  $5 for accompanying adults (for meal).

 

2010 state contest will focus on: Southeast Mixed and Outer Costal Plain Forest,      

it species and management practices.

 

Information, study resources, contest rules for 2010 have been revised to comply with changes at the national level.  (2/23).  Use resources in left column for study purposes.

IMPORTANT:  Coaches/Students, effective this year,  the Wildlife Foods Activity for the State Contest will change to correspond with the changes in the national event.  Disregard previous wildlife foods charts.  Download and use the NEW Wildlife Foods chart, which is Region specific. (at left)

 

Also, senior age division youth competing as a team should study the Wildlife Management Plan information (at left) as the revised format will be used.  It will be a written plan only – no oral presentation.

whep1Though the state 4-H Wildlife Mangement Contest is a competitive “judging” event open to all Missouri 4-H members, it is conducted as a learning experience for novices.  There is no requirement for enrollment in the Wildlife Project.  Youth may participate as a county team of 3 or 4 OR as an individual. 

 

 

                                                                                            

 

Pre-register by April 15

Divisions:

·       Junior (ages 8-13 years)

·       Senior (14-19 years)

·       Lunch provided

 

 

Wildlife Management Contest

            9:00 – 9:30 a.m.          Check-in

            9:30                             Introduction – Explanation of day’s activities

                                                Event begins

            Noon                           Lunch

            3:30                              approximate time of conclusion

 

 

·         Junior and Senior age division (all ages)

·         Compete as Individual and/or County Teams

·         Advance to National Contest – Los Alamos, New Mexico – July 25-29

Register as an individual.  County teams can be designated by volunteer coach on the day of the state contest.
